Being born and raised in Michigan, Hawaii seems like a far away land. Since moving to California, I’ve learned it’s only a short flight away. On my first trip to Hawaii, I got engaged, so of course it was epic. But many future trips are when I would fall in love with the people, the islands, and the culture. There is so much to do on vacation, that sometimes the best thing is a quiet afternoon on the beach, connecting with ourselves and nature with a cup of shaved ice in our hand.
I try, every time, to go on some sort of water excursion, whether it’s snorkeling or a sunset cruise. There is something magical about swimming with sea turtles and exploring what lies beneath the water. Life slows down on most Hawaiian islands; almost as a reminder that we should be doing it more often. I love exploring all the tropical flowers with colors that pop or the smell of the rain as it storms. I always come back inspired by the water and nature; prompting my design to incorporate more color and sense of peace within my spaces.
If you haven’t been to any of the islands, you must add it to your bucket list. Napali coast in Kauai is amazing by helicopter, just make sure your husband doesn’t get sick 😟.
